Women’s bodies are fair game in the public eye and in the workplace. But whether you’re powerful, influential and a winner like Serena Williams, or an ordinary woman in an office, put on your lipstick, work on bolstering your self-confidence and keep it moving.
Black women’s curvy bodies have long been a threat, our femininity a target for insane projections of negative, hyper-sexualized stereotypes – whore, baby mama – you know the ones. But society has the problem. Not us. We may not represent the perfect ideal of feminine beauty, but very few women do. That ideal is unrealistic, virtually unattainable and almost completely irrelevant, as Ms. Williams proved when she went up to collect her sixth Wimbledon trophy.
